Sheffield DA at Parwich: St George’s Day Weekend
Another weekend, another brilliant Sheffield DA meet, this time back in lovely Parwich for St George's Day.
With the Villagers and the Oddfellows
We were honoured to join the villagers and the Order of the Oddfellows for their annual celebrations. We first took part last year when we hosted a refreshment stop on our field, and we were delighted to be invited back again this year. The locals welcomed us to fall in with the parade as it moved around the village, and we were glad to accept and to host the stop on our camping field once more.
The parade started at the British Legion and paraded to the Mansion House, then to the church for the service, before parading on to our site. The brass band led the way, and the whole procession came marching onto the field in fine style. Even our own Rob Straw could not resist, borrowing an instrument and playing along expertly with the band.
A Proper Afternoon Out
It was one of those afternoons that sums up why we do this. The route took in:
the British Legion, where the parade formed up
the Mansion House
St Peter’s church for the St George's service
ur camping field, with the band in full flow
a villager's back garden, opened up specially
the local pub, keeping glasses topped up
back to the Legion to finish, with burgers, hot dogs and the odd drink or two
Plenty of chat, plenty of laughs, and a real sense of being welcomed into the heart of the village. To mark the occasion, we presented the Master of the Oddfellows with a Sheffield DA pennant to commemorate our involvement in their celebrations.
Thank You
A big thank you to our stewards for an excellent job booking in 32 units and keeping everything running smoothly. The weather could not have been kinder, which made the whole weekend and the celebrations even better.
