Camping Club Juniors (CCJ): Fun, Adventure, and Lifelong Skills!

If you love camping, you already know that some of the best childhood memories are made outdoors — exploring nature, learning new skills, and sharing laughs under the stars.

Camping Club Juniors (CCJ) is the perfect way to pass that spirit of adventure on to the next generation!

If you’re a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club and have a child aged up to 12 years old, here’s why you should encourage them to get involved in CCJ!

What is Camping Club Juniors (CCJ)?

Camping Club Juniors is the Club’s fun-filled group for younger campers.

It gives children the chance to join in with exciting activities at meets, make new friends, and start learning the skills they’ll use as full-fledged campers later on.

Sheffield DA encourages youngsters to take their CCJ ‘test’. This is a very informal junior version of the CCY test and comprises of a few camping ‘challenges’ — a light, encouraging way for children to show what they've learned, like:

Putting up a small tent (with help)

Helping to cook a simple meal

Learning a little about camp safety and looking after the environment

There’s no formal test like the older youth section (CCY) has — it's all about fun, encouragement, and building confidence at their own pace.

Why Get Your Child Involved?

✅ Fun and Friendship:

Your child will join in games, crafts, treasure hunts, and group activities at meets — making new camping friends along the way.

✅ Skills for Life:

They'll start learning simple outdoor skills like setting up camp, helping with cooking, and looking after their gear.

✅ Confidence Building:

Trying new things in a safe, friendly environment gives young campers a real sense of pride and independence.

✅ A Gateway to Bigger Adventures:

Being part of CCJ gives them a smooth pathway to join Camping Club Youth (CCY) at 12+, where they can take on more adventurous challenges if they choose.

✅ Family Fun:

CCJ helps the whole family enjoy meets more — with activities designed to keep kids engaged and happy while parents relax and socialize.

How Can We Get Started?

Talk to our CCJ leaders or use the contact form - see the Juniors page for more information or just simply come along to a Meet. Many meets have a few fun CCJ events such as games, scavenger hunts, basic camping activities. It’s not formal and can be spontaneous over the weekend.

CCJ activities are all about having a go — no pressure, no formality, just encouragement to love camping!

Help Your Child Fall in Love with Camping 🌳

Getting involved in Camping Club Juniors is one of the best ways to help your child build confidence, develop useful skills, and make camping part of their life from an early age.

So why not sign them up, pack the marshmallows, and start making those magical camping memories together?
