Historic village on the River Amber

About

Ashover is a historic village on the River Amber dating back to Saxon times, subsequently motioned in the Domesday Book, and reputedly the 17th Century scene of a English Civil War confrontation.  Later, the Village became a centre for lead mining and quarrying.  Today Ashover is a popular residential village and day trip destination.

Things to do...

The picturesque village is a popular destination for circular walks and enjoying a couple of fine pubs.  To the east, for the more energetic, lies Ashover Rock (aka The Fabrick), a gritstone boulder offering a fine 4-county viewpoint towards Chesterfield, Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall.

Location

The North East Derbyshire village of Ashover lies just 4 miles to the south of Chesterfield and 4 miles to the north-east of Matlock.
