**UPDATED 30th March**
Your committee met again 30th March (virtually) to consider our response to the rapidly evolving Covid-19 outbreak situation.
Regrettably we must cancel all Meets and holiday sites until further notice and will be aligned to any guidance issued by the Camping and Caravanning Club.
I’m sure you appreciate that we regret having to take this action, but I should explain a little about some of the points discussed and the reasons for coming to this conclusion:
· Government have asked us all to stop non-essential contact and non-essential travel. Much as we enjoy camping and caravanning, we have to consider this as non-essential activity.
Although being outside in the fresh air might be considered to be exercise and Government have acknowledged that this is important, we also have to consider the welfare of our volunteer stewards and also our members that might fall within groups that are identified as most vulnerable to this virus.
We did consider carrying on with the meets but without the associated social events and taking mitigating steps for social contact, but on balance we felt it prudent to cancel.
We also considered the impact on our host communities who might not appreciate dozens of visitors to their village, having travelled from various points of the region; we would not wish to cause any ill-feeling nor reputational damage to the DA or the Camping and Caravanning Club.
Apologies for having to announce this disappointing news but I hope you understand that we have to take a responsible position towards public health and that of our volunteers and members.
Chairman, Sheffield DA
