Great Longstone, Bakewell

Picture postcard scenes in the Peak District National Park

About

Bakewell almost needs no introduction, however the Town has much more to offer than it's famous Pudding.  Situated on the River Wye, the riverside offers a picture postcard scene.

Great Longstone is a classic Peak District village: couple of great pubs within walking distance; adjacent to Monsal Trail for family-friendly off-road walking and cycling; easy access to Bakewell. No-one can tire of the famous view from Monsal Head or venture up onto Longstone Edge at 400m above sea level to be rewarded with a huge panorama.

Things to do...

Bakewell offers the visitor a vast array of possibilities including boutique shops, arcades and courtyards around the Town centre and it's market every Monday.  Although the Town lost it's railway links in 1967 this benefits the modern-day recreational visitor because the former Midland Railway now hosts the Monsal Trail, a popular walking and cycling route that cuts through spectacular limestone dales, via a series of tunnels and bridges. The Trail can be picked-up easily from the Meet site at Great Longstone. The view from Monsal Head is one of the iconic vistas in the Peak District that should not be missed.

Location

Great Longstone is a small village sitting just 2 miles from Bakewell.
